This article describes how Awair integrates with Ecobee, basic functionality, and additional troubleshooting steps if you encounter any problems.
Setting Up Ecobee
Ecobee integrates directly with Awair devices, allowing you to use sensor readings to directly trigger your HVAC system without the use of third-party integrations like IFTTT. Awair devices can only activate your HVAC’s fan mode, and must first be registered within the Awair app itself. Please follow these instructions to connect your Awair device with Ecobee:
- Open the Awair App, navigate to the device you’d like to integrate with and tap the “Awair+” tab.
- Navigate to the “Ecobee Thermostat” section, and select “Connect with Ecobee.”
- Sign in to your Ecobee account.
- Agree to the Ecobee terms and conditions and select the device that you want to integrate with.
- In the Awair App, select the air factor levels that will trigger air circulation.
- Click “Save” to finalize your Ecobee integration!
The Awair-Ecobee integration allows your HVAC fan circulation system to be triggered by your indoor air quality. You can have multiple Awair devices set up to a single thermostat. Your Ecobee thermostat must be set to “HVAC” mode, and not in Away or Sleep mode. You must also have a fan mode enabled in your HVAC system for this integration to work properly; Awair devices cannot directly control the heating or cooling components.
Depending on your Awair device, you can set up to 3 air factor triggers (CO2, VOCs, PM 2.5) to trigger the fan circulation using your Awair App. You may only configure the settings of this integration through the Awair App. Once triggered, your Awair will send a “hold” event to Ecobee and cause the fan to run for 30 minutes. If the air quality is still at levels exceeding the threshold previously set (and your HVAC system is still on), the fan will run for an additional 30 minutes. Please allow up to one minute between when the air threshold is exceeded and when your fan is activated.
Canceling this thermostat hold event will momentarily halt the fan from circulating if Awair triggered Ecobee. However, the fan will then retrigger unless you manually change the threshold in the Awair app or change the thermostat mode (i.e. turn the fan off, or schedule to sleep mode).
- Why won’t my Awair device trigger Ecobee?
Check the schedule of your Ecobee. Awair can only trigger the circulation of air if Ecobee is in HVAC mode, not in Away or Sleep mode. Demand Response events will also override Awair air circulation triggers.
- Why does Awair keep triggering my fan’s circulation?
Your air factor thresholds may be too low. To change the frequency of events, please adjust your Awair air factor settings or manually change the Ecobee thermostat mode.
- Why won’t my fan stop running?
Your fan will continue to run while the air quality is below the standard you specified in the Awair+ tab. Ecobee will be triggered for 30-minute increments and will be re-triggered if the air quality has not improved. To stop your fan from running, you may either change the mode to Sleep, adjust your Awair settings, or take action to improve your air (potentially with an air filter or more structural changes).
- How can I tell when my Awair is triggering Ecobee?
You can check the settings under the Awair+ tab.
