How long do the sensors last?

Legacy Device Sunset Notification:

This device is no longer able to receive firmware updates, and if it is reset, it will not be able to reconnect through the Awair Home App. Please read here for more details.

Article Overview:

This article describes the life of sensors and their working and maintenance.

Awair 2nd Edition should last 5 years with proper care and maintenance.

Most of Awair’s components will last for much longer, however, the device is limited by the lifetime of our Fine Dust (PM2.5) sensor. The laser particle sensor has a mechanical fan which gives it active air flow, but due to the moving parts, it can wear out over time. Additionally, the laser diode has a coating that naturally degrades with usage.

The combined Temperature / Humidity sensor is stable over its theoretical lifetime of many decades.

The Carbon Dioxide and Chemicals (TVOC) sensors are rated for 10+ years.

It is important to note that while these are the theoretical operating lifetimes provided by the sensor manufacturers, results can vary based on care level and the environmental conditions it is exposed to. Long term, extended exposure to any of the target air factors can impact each sensor's accuracy and reliability over time.
