Article Summary:

This article provides an overview of Glow’s main features.

Article Overview:

Air Quality Factors and the Awair Score

Glow uses state-of-the-art sensing technology to continuously monitor temperature, humidity, CO2, and volatile organic compound (VOC) levels.  Our chemical sensors measure the aggregate number of VOCs, which includes both formaldehyde and benzene, but for a complete list see our dedicated VOC article. All measurements are displayed in the Awair App.

From medical and academic research, we have estimated a range of optimal values for these key environmental factors: Temperature (22 ̊C - 26 ̊C, or 71.6 ̊F - 78.8 ̊F), Humidity (40% - 50%), CO2 (<600ppm), and chemicals (<333ppb). The Awair Score provides an at-a-glance assessment of your air quality, on a simple zero to 100 scale. When these four environmental factors deviate outside our recommended ranges, the Awair Score decreases.

Triggers and Integrations

Glow’s smart plug functionality allows it to automate “non-smart” devices. The outlet can be activated by pressing the physical power button on the Glow, by tapping the in-app prompt, or through triggers and integrations managed via the Awair app.

Triggers are a set of customizable reactions to changes in environmental factors like humidity and temperature. Glow triggers are activated through the Awair app via the Awair+ tab. Glow comes with a series of pre-programmed on/off switches that react to changes in humidity, temperature, chemicals, and CO2. Users can also program Glow to activate on pre-set time schedules or through motion detection. See the triggers article for more details.

Glow can also be integrated with Google Home, IFTTT, and Amazon Alexa. These integrations allow Glow to be part of a larger ecosystem of interconnected devices and extend the functionality of the Glow trigger system. Through integration with IFTTT, Glow’s on/off switch can be activated based on real-time air quality measurements.  See the integrations article for step-by-step instructions on how to integrate Glow with IFTTT.

The Awair App

Glow’s functions are primarily accessed through the Awair app.You must download the Awair app from the Google Play or Apple App Store to activate your new device.

The Awair App allows users to:

  • Access their air quality monitoring data and personalized tips

  • Compare and manage multiple devices

  • Customize Glow’s settings

  • Program triggers

  • Organize integrations

Within the App, each air quality factor is represented by colored “dots” that increase in number from one to five as readings become more extreme.

Glow Nightlight

In addition to the LED air quality status light, Glow can also emit a neutral white light to be used as an ambient nightlight. This light can be turned on and off by gently tapping the wood panel on the top of the device or may be remotely controlled via the Awair app. If desired, you can tap the wood panel twice to turn off all LED lights, including the colored air quality status light. You can also turn Glow on and off manually by pressing the power button on the front of the plug.
